How does God have contact with us?

Never otherwise than making promises to us. Conversely, we can not have contact with God other than through believing in those promises. It does not need works, it is not about that. Works are only important between people or for people themselves. What is important for God is that we trust what He promises us, and that we patiently hold on to that and that we honour Him so in faith, hope and love.
