You are not really an advocate of adult baptism…
Luther:
No! Even apart from all theology, suppose that baptism is just only administered to adults, then it has to go wrong. Indubitably one is going to devise, just like with the indulgences, certain ‘preparations’ and ‘valences’ that is ‘restrictions’ and ‘limitations’, or however they will name those monetary safety nets. One is able to sell water just as expensive as the parchments [of the indulgence letters].
But luckily, God has not permitted that this sacrament would end up in the grasp of superstition and avarice. He decided to add little children (who are not yet vulnerable to avarice and superstition) by the very simplest faith to the church and to bless them.
